Cymbidium Orchid


One of the most popular orchids, due to the colorful long lasting flowers in yellow, green, red, orange, brown and pastel colors. Often used as corsages for Mother's Day.

Light: Bright filtered light all day or full morning sun.

Temperature: Ideal range of 40-90 F, with a period of cooling (40-55 F) in the fall to initiate flower spikes. Keep outdoors as long as posssible, but don't allow plant to freeze.

Moisture: Water thoroughly about once a week. Allow media to dry slightly. Keep humidity high when temperatures reach 90 F.

Nutrition: Apply one tablespoon of Osmocote or Nutricote for each of pot size in spring. Use a 20-20-20 at half-strength with regular waterings.

Potting: Repot in spring when new growth begins, every 3-4 years if the media is breaking down. Use fir bark or coconut mix without potting soil.

Tips: Some heat-tolerant miniatures don't require cooling to initiate spikes. Watch for spider mites in summer heat.
